"Rep. Anne Northup, R-3rd District, said Bush's tour should continue, and it's time for Congress to get involved. Northup said that her sense from talking to people in Kentucky is that the time for action is 'ripe.'"
"Derrick Max, executive director of the Alliance for Worker Retirement Security... thinks a compromise can be struck. 'There is a lot of momentum for what Bush is talking about,' he said. 'Whether you like personal accounts or don't like personal accounts, whether you like more taxes or don't like taxes, whether you like benefit cuts or don't like benefit cuts—you've got to come to the table and deal with it.'"

The "Coalition for the Modernization and Protection of America's Social Security hopes to use Congress' return this week to renew its lobbying and public relations push to revamp Social Security with personal accounts. In a memo dated today, the coalition cited likely consideration this month by House and Senate committees of overhaul proposals as evidence the issue has not stalled.
'While not a full shout, more and more whispers from the media, congressional members, staff and other policy experts can be heard that suggest a bill will emerge this session,' the memo stated."
