CoMPASS Membership Triples in Size as 350 Groups
Join Together Behind Social Security Reform
New Supporters Include Civic, Business and Student Groups

WASHINGTON—In a sign of continued broad-based support for Social Security reform, the Coalition for the Modernization and Protection of Social Security (CoMPASS) today announced that its membership has nearly tripled in just two months, with 350 business, senior, youth and civic groups from across the country uniting behind reform. CoMPASS, the leading coalition supporting Social Security reform, has seen significant growth in its diverse membership, which is up dramatically from 116 organizations in early April. The growing membership—which includes groups in Washington, D.C., and from nearly every state in the nation—comes at a time when both House and Senate committees are accelerating activity with hearings and discussions on legislative proposals. “Our rapidly growing membership sends a clear signal of the strong support and shared commitment across diverse groups for fixing Social Security now,” said Jade West, Senior Vice President at National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors. “To have grown to more than 300 members in only a few months demonstrates the broad appeal to protecting the retirement security of all generations.” The generational appeal for Social Security reform is epitomized by growing membership among younger Americans. For example, more than 100 campus chapters of Students for Saving Social Security have brought new energy to the reform cause, joining with organizations representing retirees, such as the Seniors Coalition and The Seniors Center. Other new members include the National Mining Association, Latin American Management Association, National Small Business Association, American Trucking Associations, Associated Builders and Contractors, National Center for Policy Analysis, National Taxpayers Union, Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors National Association, Retail Industry Leaders Association, Team Builders International, Salt Institute and the American Petroleum Institute. These newer members join a long list of leading organizations already involved with the coalition, including the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, Associated General Contractors of America, Freedom Works, The Latino Coalition, Minority Business Roundtable, National Federation of Independent Business, National Restaurant Association, National Retail Federation, 60 Plus Association, Business Roundtable, National Association of Manufacturers and U.S. Chamber of Commerce. CoMPASS sponsors Generations Together (www.generationstogether.net), the leading voter education and grassroots mobilization campaign in support of Social Security reform. “Through Generations Together, CoMPASS continues to amplify our message inside and outside of Washington, D.C., said Derrick Max, Executive Director of CoMPASS. “Whether it be in the form of direct Member contacts, staff contacts, media opportunities or phone calls to congressional offices by concerned citizens, those in support of our principles are mobilized and working diligently to communicate the need for Social Security reform.” CoMPASS believes Social Security reform must protect benefits for seniors and those nearing retirement, give younger workers the option of personal retirement accounts, not raise taxes on employers or employees and put the program on the path to long-term financial stability. ### Generations Together (www.generationstogether.net) is a project of the Coalition for the Modernization and Protection of America’s Social Security (CoMPASS). CoMPASS is a 501 (c)(4) with the mission of educating the public on, and advocating for, fundamental Social Security reform. |
